Minna Vigren
There is a need to radically (re)imagine the kind of technology we want to live with.
I’m a digital sustainability scholar, interested in questions on imagination and alternative futures, the environmental footprint of digital technologies and lifestyle, agency, power, and resistance. In my interdisciplinary research, I combine critical internet studies, science and technology studies, environmental social science, human-computer interaction, radical pedagogics, and futures studies.
I’m Assistant Professor of Global Communications and Climate Change at LUT University. I defended my thesis Kuvitelmia toimijuudesta koodin maisemissa (Imaginaries of Agency in the Landscapes of Code in English) in 2020 at Tampere University.
My current project is Imagining Sustainable Digital Futures: Outlines for Eco-Digital Agency (Research Council of Finland, 2022-2025). The project aims to develop methods to foster creative and radical imagination that challenges and resists the taken-for-grantedness of digital everyday life and its injustices and unsustainabilities.
