Register to the Research Seminar "Living in the Broken World: Fostering Repair, Maintenance, and Care" on 12-13 December

I’m excited to share the invitation to the final event of our Assemblages of the Broken world seminar series, organized together with Professor Tarja Rautiainen-Keskustalo and doctoral researcher Antti Kurko at Tampere University. We will have keynote talks from Steven Jackson and Valeria Graziano and four sessions of presentations. There is no participation fee, but registration is needed by 9 December.

In the seminar, the presentations and keynotes will engage in imagining what happens when we take erosion, breakdown, and decay, rather than novelty, growth, and progress, as the starting points for research – as our keynote speaker, professor of Information Science and Science and Technology Studies, Steven J. Jackson invited us to do in the seminal paper “Rethinking Repair” (2014). This shift in perspective requires us to acknowledge the limits of our fragile world and recognize the importance of repair, maintenance, and care as a means of sustaining the good life amidst all the brokenness.

You can find the full programme and abstracts from keynote speakers and presenters here.

The event is funded by DIGISUS research platform. The platform aims to create holistic and cross-disciplinary insights into digitalization and sustainability as societal transitions. The platform aims to bring together experts, offer funding for research, and guide society towards a brighter future. You can read more here: https://research.tuni.fi/digisus/
